Once again The Kalm Before the Waaagh has proven that there is a place in the world where being a good guy is more important than being a good player. Some of our nerd brothers in Madrid, Spain have heard of our little tournament and want to put on a similar event. I know that each and every one of us think this is a fantastic idea and we hope they do it. And if they do it, and get the sucker up and running, I will be the first to suggest that we send a contingent there to show them how we good southern boys drink and play 40k!

On the front page of this website I intend, over the next several months, to feature our players and their armies. Many of our guests design and build armies which have a special theme to them. It may be a theme embedded in the 40k universe or it may be something more comical. However, if you have an army that is worthy of being featured I want you to send me pictures of it. We would all love to see some of the beautiful, and even not so beautiful, armies out there.

Things are shaping up nicely for The Kalm Before the Waaagh this year. Masons Pub is looking to be a fantastic venue and is generous enough to offer our guests $2.50 beer and $8.00 pitchers. Our bartenter has been chosen and will be taking care of us all day (so tip generously). Our menu for lunch has been selected and it will be the same caliber as last year. We have also managed to get the same hotel rate and suites we obtained last year. And our guest roster is second to none.  We are still working on our hotel to event transportation.

Over the past week I have attempted to call all our guests for the Kalm. And the show of support has truly been overwhelming. This event is about sportsmanship and simply having a good day. Furthermore, in talking with our guests every single one has expressed how happy they are to be attending a tournament where making new friends is the main goal.

Over the next couple of months, I intend on updating this page regularly for news and happenings of the development of the Kalm so check in often.

It’s with much excitement that we announce the 3rd annual “Kalm Before the Waaagh” tournament! If you were around for last year’s event your probably aware that the previous venue, The Jazz Factory, has since closed it’s doors. Not wanting to leave such a great event out in the cold, George has been hard at work finding us a new location which will be just as good if not better that years past. He’s still in negotiations but if everything works out, we’ll be taking over Mason’s Pub for the better part of April 17th, 2010.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with The Kalm Before the Waaagh, here is a little taste of what’s been done in years past. Last years event started on Friday evening with an informal Battlefleet Gothic Tournament for the guys that arrived at the hotel early. The next day, the guys staying at the hotel were taken to the Jazz Factory via limousine where they were treated to a days worth of 40k gaming with an cash bar and a catered barbecue lunch. Once the tournament was over the guys that had too much “fun” were loaded back into the limo to head back to the hotel. All this combined with good company, good games, good food, and good drinks made for a great weekend! Not to mention the whole thing was only $30 plus a discounted hotel room.

We’re going to try to continue the tradition in 2010 with another great weekend. This year the events will kick off with Blood Bowl tournament Friday evening, and then a 2000pt 40k tournament on Saturday along with all the other “perks” you’ve seen in the past.

So keep an eye on this site as things are still in the planning stages and subject to change. Subscribe to the RSS feed at the right to receive the latest updates about the best little tournament in the country.

Get ready!
